my creation process

My work desk is an archaeologist’s dream.
Layers of loose bits, charms, filigree, ufos* and half assembled bits strewn across the surface. Piles shift like sand as I shove things aside to find a few square inches to work on a brilliant idea.
Bits land on top of other bits, next thing I know a line is forming of more brilliant ideas!

Quite some time ago I realized that I only stood a 50/50 shot at ending up with what I thought I was making, so, I just go with it. Most of the time I’m rather pleasantly surprised.**

* unfinished objects.

** well, there was that one time when it was so disappointing it dropped off the desk, crawled behind the credenza, and has never been seen again.***

*** yes, I am a Pratchett fan.

Six stone cabochons

That’s what started it.
A rather large pile of little cup beads in my stash chimed in. Acrylic leaves whispered from inside their drawer, then of course green stones need copper!

After that it was every bead for itself!

Helmets

It started about a decade ago.

I had a great idea to build a set of helms representing Roman gods.

Well okay, it was half an idea.
I just couldn’t figure out how to make them fit well enough to stay on. I put them away in a box in the barn.

life went on.

one day while I was happily stitching away, a stray bit of inspiration hit me right upside the head. I knew how to do it! I dug the old prototypes out, and forged on ahead.

Currently I am working on another big art piece. Fire is up next. My original idea was to make each piece look like one flame. Well as you can see it morphed even as I was stitching. So far I’m rather pleased with the way it’s going.

It all begins with an idea.
