Into the woods

Winner 2021
Best of show 3D

Three Rivers Carnegie center for the arts regional juried show

I went into the woods to find myself, only to discover that I was never lost.

this piece had the working title of big green. It began when I saw I had a set of six matching cabochon stones, and wondered what I could make using all of them. It got a little out of hand.

Once I had the front complete I realized that it was a bit heavy on the back of the neck. Ok, it needs a counter balance in the rear.

Well… as you can see it developed a life of its own.

The cool part is I made it so that the back piece comes off, and it combines with a pair

of bracelets so I can wear it separately!

this is the short list of what it took to build this piece.

2+ bobbins thread, stiffened felt, ultra suede, 7 tubes #11 seed beads, give or take, 2/3 tube #15 seed beads, 12+ packets tea cup beads, 4 strands glass flowers, a good double handful of vintage acrylic leaves, a couple brooches, metal bits

the entire MCU, half past season three of GOT, and half of Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock
29+ days of stitching

blood

The pieces fall into place.

Once I have a needle in my hand, there’s no telling where I might end up.

The back piece comes off, and attaches to two bracelets in order to be worn separately.

Sometimes an idea has to ferment for awhile.
My first helms spent nearly a decade in a box in the barn waiting for inspiration to strike. One day I got hit with a lovely dose, and I knew how to engineer them to stay put.

(of course it took a few days to find where I’d put the box)

It’s all about the thread path

Beading is highly addictive, and beneficial to your health.

Never mind tiara tuesday,

Sometimes you need to put on your crown, and remind them of who they’re dealing with.

Wee hats

I will never not make these. They make big Viking guys in full armor go squeee.

I am a creator of shiny things for all occasions.

(If you don’t have an occasion, I will happily invent one for you)

I hope you enjoyed my gallery.
Much more to come as this old dog learns some new tricks.
